The Finnleo Himalaya electric sauna heater is Finnleo's best-selling floor-standing rock-tower heater and the centerpiece of the modern Finnish sauna experience. A tall column of stone surrounds the heating elements on every side, putting an exceptional mass of rock in direct contact with the heat for deep, enveloping warmth and an abundant, soft löyly (steam). The Himalaya is available in three configurations to match nearly any home, spa, or commercial sauna room: 7.0 kW (240V, 1-Phase), 9.0 kW (240V, 1-Phase), and 9.0 kW (208V, 3-Phase) — all sharing the same award-winning rock-tower design, BioWater Technique humidity system, and SaunaLogic2 smart control compatibility.

Rock Tower Construction

Every Himalaya heater is built around a vertical rock tower that holds approximately 210 lb of sauna rocks, supplied standard with the unit. The elements are fully surrounded by stone on all sides rather than exposed on top, so heat radiates gently and evenly through the rock mass instead of blasting directly off open elements. This produces the soft, deep heat and gentle löyly Finnleo is known for, while the tower's slim vertical footprint fits neatly into corner installations, mid-sauna placements, or through-bench configurations.

Standard BioWater Technique (BWT)

Every Himalaya model includes Finnleo's integral BioWater Technique (BWT) water tank as a standard feature, not an add-on. The BWT tank hangs directly on top of the heating elements beneath the rocks and produces a continuous, soft boil of water throughout the sauna session, gently raising ambient humidity so bathers can enjoy a hotter-feeling sauna at a lower, more comfortable air temperature. To use it, allow the heater to warm up for about 20 minutes, then add roughly 2 cups of fresh water through the side slots of the fragrance diffuser (never use pool or spa water, as chlorine will corrode the heater). A separate, non-slotted diffuser port is provided for adding fragrance oils — oils should never be poured directly into the water reservoir, as they can foam and leave a lingering scent in the tank. Additional water can be poured directly onto the rocks at any time for a quick spike of humidity. The BWT tank and sleeve should remain installed with the rocks at all times; adding water is optional for bathers who prefer a drier, lower-humidity sauna.

SaunaLogic2 (SL2) Smart Control

Every Himalaya heater is designed to run on Finnleo's SaunaLogic2 control system, available in Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi versions. The SL2 control allows bathers to:

• Set sauna temperature from 119°F to 194°F (typical bathing range is 150°F–165°F)
• Set session duration from 0 to 60 minutes
• Program a delayed start of up to 24 hours in advance
• Operate an optional integrated lighting package with color and brightness control
• Enable optional Bluetooth audio functionality
• Rely on a built-in high-limit safety control that automatically shuts down the heater if room temperature reaches an abnormal level, with a manual reset button on the heater housing

The control automatically retains the bather's last settings between sessions, resetting to factory defaults (194°F, 60-minute session) only after a power interruption.

Optional Integrated Lighting

Each Himalaya configuration can be bundled with an optional SL2-compatible lighting package consisting of 3 to 8 individual light fixtures wired through an 8-port splitter back to the contactor box. Bathers can cycle through a full color sequence — white, red, green, blue, yellow, aqua, purple, and full rotation — and adjust brightness in 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% increments directly from the SL2 control glass. Lights automatically shut off 10 minutes after a session ends as a safety feature, and fixtures must be positioned away from direct bather contact due to heat generated during use.

Wood & Interior Finish

The Himalaya heater is designed to be installed within a sauna room finished in traditional tongue-and-groove softwood paneling, with wall construction consisting of 2x4 framing, fiberglass insulation (minimum R-12), a foil vapor barrier, and 1/2" wallboard. Finnleo advises against using any wood stain, sealer, or preservative on interior sauna surfaces, preserving the natural softwood's ability to absorb and release moisture for an authentic Finnish sauna feel.

Heater Guard & Safety Clearances

Each Himalaya heater includes a metal heater guard (rock guard) rail that must remain in place during operation and is engineered with defined clearances from combustible surfaces per Finnleo's installation specifications. The heater should never be operated without its tower fully and properly filled with rocks and the guard rail installed. Three metal safety placards are included with every unit — a CAUTION placard mounted on the interior wall directly above the heater, and WARNING placards mounted on or beside the sauna door at eye level, both required by code for safe operation.

Room Requirements & Ventilation

• Sauna doors must swing outward and use only magnetic, friction, spring, or gravity-loaded closures — no permanent locks or latches
• No electrical receptacles or showers are permitted inside the sauna room
• Minimum recommended flooring thickness of 5/8"
• Fresh-air inlet vent located directly below the heater, with an outlet vent positioned lower than the upper bench and roughly two feet above the inlet, sized to UL 875 ventilation standards
• Room air should fully exchange approximately 6 times per hour for proper comfort and heater performance

Maintenance

Finnleo recommends wiping down the heater periodically to remove lint and dust, inspecting benches and structural supports annually for dry rot or wear, and removing the rocks once a year to clean them and replace any that are cracked or crumbling. Sauna rooms in daily use should be washed down weekly and aired out between sessions by leaving the door and vents open.
