Construction & Design
The Saga 22 Basic is built around a rugged, forged steel frame designed for durability under the intense, repeated heat cycles of wood-fired sauna use. Its distinctive rock basket runs from top to bottom of the unit, exposing the stones directly to the fire below for maximum heat storage and the soft, enveloping steam that traditional wood-burning saunas are known for. The stove features a small glass door on the front, allowing sauna-goers to enjoy the ambiance of the visible flame while the unit heats. A removable ash pan simplifies ongoing maintenance, and the heater is CE-certified, confirming it meets recognized European safety and construction standards.
Heating Performance
Designed for larger residential and cabin-style saunas, the Saga 22 Basic efficiently heats rooms from 423 up to 777 cubic feet. Its generous 330 lb (145-150 kg) rock capacity allows the stove to store substantial thermal energy, producing the long-lasting, gentle radiant heat and rich steam that wood-burning stoves are prized for. The heavy rock load also helps stabilize sauna temperature and produces a smoother, more comfortable steam (löyly) when water is thrown on the hot stones, compared to lighter electric heating elements.
Installation & Flue Requirements
The Saga 22 Basic is a floor-standing model with a 4.5-inch (115 mm) inside flue diameter. A chimney basket (4.5 inches) and a protective base are available as optional accessories to complete a safe, code-compliant wood-burning installation. As with all wood-burning sauna stoves, proper clearances to combustible materials, a compliant chimney/flue system, and adequate room ventilation are required for safe operation.
